Reddit has started testing ad placements on its search results pages, it announced on 3 November 2026.
The test is open to a select group of eligible advertisers, and Reddit says it will use it to understand how users respond to these ads so it can refine the experience for users and advertisers over time.
The placements use the ad targeting Reddit already has and apply it to search results pages, which Reddit describes as having high purchase and search intent. An ad in search may appear based on a range of factors, including its contextual relevance to what the person searched for. Reddit gives two examples: a search for “espresso station” could surface ads for espresso machines, coffee beans or mugs, and a search for “home office setup” could surface ads for monitors, desks or office chairs.
Reddit frames the test as part of improving search for users, and says half of Reddit users say the platform helps them discover something new. The post gives no sample or date for that figure.
What Reddit has not said
The post does not say which markets the test runs in, how an advertiser becomes eligible, how long the test will last or how the ads will look on the page. Reddit calls it an initial test, so it is not a general release.
What it means for brands
The searches Reddit is putting ads against are product searches, the kind a customer makes before buying. If your customers research on Reddit, the results for those searches are a page your brand should already know. This week, run the five searches your customers are most likely to make on Reddit, note which posts and communities come up, and check whether your brand is mentioned in them and how.
