TikTok puts its US business footprint at 8.5 million companies and $81 billion.
TikTok used UN General Assembly week to publish new economic figures for the US, Europe and the UK, and restate how it labels AI content.
TikTok says more than 8.5 million businesses in the United States are powered by TikTok, and that they helped contribute $81 billion to US GDP and support more than 400,000 jobs.
The figures come from PF Global’s TikTok U.S. 2026 Economic Impact Report, which TikTok published alongside its UN General Assembly statement, dated 1 October 2026.
The statement sums up what TikTok said at the 81st UN General Assembly’s high-level week, where its Head of Public Policy for the Americas, Ziad Ojakli, spoke on a Digital@UNGA panel on 21 September and its AI Policy Lead, Tom Varghese, spoke with Foreign Policy on 22 September.
The other numbers
Outside the US, TikTok says advertising and marketing on the platform has added over $2.7 billion to Brazil’s GDP. In Europe, it says businesses advertising on TikTok generated €31 billion in economic value in 2025 and added 10 billion pounds to the UK economy. The statement does not break the UK figure down further or say who calculated it.
The case study on stage was Bask & Lather, a US haircare brand. TikTok says it grew 1,400% from 2024 to 2026 and took more than $20 million in TikTok Shop sales from January to August 2026.
On AI content
TikTok says it has labelled over three billion videos as AI generated since it began that work, and that it funds AI literacy material through 20 partner organisations. It also mentions a feature that lets people choose how much AI-generated content they see in their For You feed. The statement does not say when that control launched or where it is available. Symphony, its generative AI suite for advertisers, is named as the main AI tool for small businesses.
What it means for brands
These are the numbers a manager will be quoted in a budget meeting, so know where they come from: the US figures are from a report TikTok commissioned, and the UK figure arrives with no method attached. Use them as context for why TikTok matters, not as a forecast for your own account.
The AI content control matters more day to day. If viewers can turn down AI-generated video in their feed, content that carries TikTok’s AI label may reach fewer of them. This week, check which of your recent posts carry that label, and compare their reach with the ones that do not.
