Making a regional zoo go viral, organically.

Working hands-on with one of the zoo's keepers, we built and ran a character-led wildlife channel network for a regional UK zoo. In 18 months across 2023 and 2024 it produced over 1.9 billion organic views and an audience of 4.1 million, with no paid budget behind any of it.

The situation

A regional UK zoo had exactly what social rewards (genuine characters and daily moments people love) but no consistent way to turn that into attention, following or footfall.

The brief was to build the audience from nothing and, crucially, convert that attention into real-world visits, without a paid budget to lean on.

What NBK did

We partnered directly with a keeper for authentic, behind-the-scenes access, and built character-led content around the zoo's animals. The gorillas became the hero storyline.

We launched across every platform at once and held a near-daily publishing rhythm: 528 videos on TikTok alone over the 18 months spanning 2023 and 2024, close to one a day, each cut and packaged for how that platform rewards reach.

The cadence is what makes the numbers repeatable rather than lucky. 477 of those 528 videos passed 100,000 views, 143 passed a million and 21 passed ten million. Set the single biggest video aside and the account still did over a billion. Underneath it all we kept a call-to-visit running, so viral moments turned into ticket demand rather than just views.

The approach

What we actually did.

  1. Real access, real characters
Worked hands-on with a keeper so the content had authenticity you can't fake or stage.
  2. Character-led storytelling
Built recurring animal storylines people came back for, instead of one-off clips.
  3. Held the daily rhythm
Close to a video a day for 18 months, because reach at this scale comes from cadence, not from one good idea.
  4. Launched everywhere at once
Went multi-platform from day one and tuned each cut to how that platform rewards reach.
  5. Turned views into visits
Kept a soft call-to-visit under the content so attention became real-world footfall.

Organic beats paid when the content has something real to show. A charismatic animal and honest access will out-travel any ad budget.
