Brand build · 2016, from a standing start

Launching UNILAD Tech from a standing start.

In 2016 UNILAD wanted a dedicated tech brand off its existing audience, making UNILAD Tech the go-to source for viral tech content. We built the positioning, the content engine and the community behind it.

The situation

In 2016 UNILAD had a vast audience but no dedicated home for tech content, at exactly the moment tech stopped being a niche interest and became the thing everyone's feed argued about: phones, apps, gadgets, the platforms themselves.

The opportunity was to use that authority to launch UNILAD Tech as a trusted hub for viral tech, and build a genuine community around it rather than just a feed. A vertical that only syndicates the parent's audience fades when the cross-promotion stops; one that builds its own gathering place does not. The Facebook Group was the bet that made the difference.

What NBK did

We positioned UNILAD Tech on the parent brand's credibility, then evolved the content from short viral videos and memes toward long-form and editorial as the audience matured, so the brand grew up with its readers rather than churning them.

We built an engaged Facebook Group for discussion, optimised video packaging and scheduling for reach, and secured exclusive content through creator partnerships and a curated tech talent pool, giving the page material nobody else could run. In its first year from the 2016 launch, views grew 152% to over 3 billion and engagement grew 175% to over 80 million.

The approach

What we actually did.

  1. Borrowed the authority
Used UNILAD's credibility to establish UNILAD Tech as a trusted hub fast.
  2. Evolved the content
Started with viral video and memes, then moved into long-form and editorial as the audience matured.
  3. Built a community
An engaged Facebook Group turned viewers into a loyal tech audience with a home of its own.
  4. Locked exclusive content
Partnered with creators and built a talent pool for content others couldn't run.

Borrowed authority launches a brand; community is what makes it stay launched. The Group did more for the vertical than any single video.
